Current IVF treatments

With the genetically diagnosed in vitro fertilization method, the possibility of miscarriage in pregnancy is minimized, and the risk of the baby being born with a genetic disease can be eliminated.

In vitro fertilization method with genetic diagnosis

As we enter the year 2022, first of all, in my first column, I wish everyone health, happiness and especially our couples, who long for children, to receive the news of healthy pregnancy and to meet their angels. The dream of couples who want to have children is to be able to hold their healthy babies in their arms. Of course, the first thing we obstetricians want from our couples is spontaneous pregnancies, which we call natural pregnancies. However, 15 percent of these couples use assisted reproductive techniques to have children. One of these techniques is in vitro fertilization. IVF is a method that renews itself every day and includes technologies that increase pregnancy success with innovations. With this method, 40 to 70 percent of couples are pregnant. There are two main rules for achieving pregnancy with IVF. The first is a good embryo, and the second is the preparation of the uterus to accept this embryo. These rates are increasing every year with the developing technology in IVF. In personalized IVF applications, drug doses are adjusted by considering the age, weight, and reasons for not having children, and after a good embryo is obtained, a personalized uterus is prepared and transferred according to the woman’s hormone values. Personification of IVF treatments is very important. With the developing and changing technology, the in vitro fertilization method has also made progress in itself, and the treatment method that increases many successes has begun to be applied to couples.

LOWER RISK REDUCE

One of these methods, I am sure, is the ‘genetically diagnosed in vitro fertilization method’, which I am sure many of us often hear about. While the risks of miscarriage in pregnancy are minimized with this method, the risk of the baby being born with a genetic disease can be eliminated. In this method; On the fifth day, laser biopsy is performed from the outer cells of the embryos and the embryo with normal genetics is selected with the new generation sequencing method and placed in the mother’s womb. So, who can undergo genetically diagnosed IVF? First of all, if the age of the woman is over 38, if pregnancy could not be achieved despite giving the best quality fifth-day embryo twice in the in vitro fertilization trials, if there is a genetic disorder in the genetic sample sent from the abortions in women with a previous miscarriage history, if there is a genetic disorder in the mother or father candidate, this method can be used. possible to apply. Another technological method with a high success rate is the use of artificial intelligence in the selection of the embryo. This method both increases pregnancy rates and ensures a healthy continuation of pregnancy. In addition, the most genetically normal embryo selection can be made with artificial intelligence. In a sense, this method is used as an embryo genetic screening test. In this way, the chance of conceiving pregnancy in the first IVF trial of couples increases. I would like to share an angel story with you every week with this article. As I always say, the first rule in this process is to listen to the stories of the couples in detail, to prepare a roadmap in this direction and to plan the treatment. In other words, personalized IVF treatment is the most important and key point of this process.

A GREAT NEWS

Our mother-to-be, whom we heard the news of pregnancy today, had three unsuccessful IVF attempts before and she was 43 years old. The first thing we should do in the IVF treatment process is to reveal the reason for these unsuccessful attempts. Unfortunately, advanced age is an important factor in this failure. With advanced age, we see serious decreases in the number and quality of eggs. If the sperm count and quality are sufficient in the spouse, our priority will be the treatment of the woman. Considering these, we prepared our embryo by performing our egg collection process together with our preliminary treatment plan. In our first IVF trial, we obtained the best quality fifth day embryo and sent our embryos to genetics, taking into account our age and failures. The genetic result for the embryos we sent was returned to us with a non-transferable result. In fact, this gave us information about why the embryos did not attach before. The uterus doesn’t hold an unhealthy embryo, which is why most pregnancies don’t actually happen. We know that the uterus is indeed a very intelligent organ. Back to our story. Of course, we could not transfer our embryo, whose genetic result was not healthy, but we did not give up. This is where the help of artificial intelligence came into play in our second in vitro fertilization trial, which we did patiently and without interruption. After re-preparing two of the best quality fifth day embryos, we sent them to genetics and one of our embryos came out to be genetically normal. We achieved a healthy pregnancy after the transfer. In vitro fertilization treatments can be a long process in which hope is never lost. We have such stories, all of them full of hope and patience. This is our first couple. Thank God his angel came in good health. Let’s say millet to all those who want it. Continue to follow us. We will continue to share our stories. See you next week with a new story.
